Other notes: | See figs. 20, 20a, 21, and 21a in the editors' Introduction. Book Auction Records, Vol. 25, Part 2 (1927-1928), p. 70, notes "Robert Hooke's copy inscribed, with 7 pp. of MS. calculations in his hand" as #346 in the auction of the library of Capt. James Stewart by Hodgon & Co on 25 Nov. 1927. However the book currently has only 5 manuscript pages of calculations, making it possible that 1 or 2 pieces of paper have gone missing. According to Robert Whipple's acquisition notebook, he purchased the book from Thomas H. Court, the bookseller, in 1927 for £15. The full title of the book in the University of Cambridge Libraries catalogue is: Varia opera mathematica D. Petri de Fermat, senatoris tolosani : accesserunt selectæ quædam ejusdem epistolæ, vel ad ipsum à plerisque doctissimis viris gallicè, latinè, vel italicè, de rebus ad mathematicas disciplinas, aut physicam pertinentibus scriptæ. |
