Other notes: | Alternative spelling of the author's name: David Brown; title in the British Library catalogue: The New Invention, intituled, Calligraphia: Or, the Arte of faire writing, etc. Hooke purchased at least two books from the auction of the Bibliotheca Selectissima librorum omnigenorum, . . . quorum auctio habebitur . . . nono die Novembris, 1691 which took place under Richard Lapthorne's consignment over 22 days in November and December 1691. Hooke's other purchase was Nicolo Antonio Stelliola's Il Telescopio over Ispecillo celeste (Naples, 1627); see auct_BH_868. Lapthorne's auction catalogue (ESTC citation no. R230317), which was published anonymously, is available via EEBO, however only the titlepage and page 30 appear to have survived in that particular copy. |
